Sixteen Years of Commitment and Leadership: The Story of Saco Shipping Uruguay Told by Its Founders

On June 1st, 2025, Saco Shipping Uruguay proudly celebrated its 16th anniversary—more than a decade marked by commitment, operational excellence, and steady growth in the competitive world of international logistics.

This milestone offers the perfect opportunity to recognize each member of the team, whose daily efforts reflect passion, professionalism, and deep dedication to service. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our clients, providers, and agents, who have placed their trust in us and played a key role in our continuous growth journey.

Today, Saco Shipping Uruguay stands as one of the leading NVOCCs in the local market, thanks to the quality of its services, competitive rate structure, and global coverage through the WWA (World Wide Alliance), made up of 100% neutral agents.

To learn more about the company’s history, present, and future, we spoke with its managing directors and founding partners, Sergio Gonzalez and Moriana Brazeiro, who shared their vision, experiences, and reflections on this very special anniversary.

How did you get started in the logistics world, and what led you to become entrepreneurs in this field?
A love for ports and ships passed down from our family was a great inspiration to enter the industry. At a very young age, we began working at traditional shipping lines and witnessed the transformation of global transport through the use of containers. We experienced the evolution of ports and were part of a generation that shaped the concept of “multimodal logistics chains.”
Later, we transitioned into the forwarding industry, and ultimately, it was within the N.V.O.C.C. segment where we found our true place in the logistics world.
By 1997, this passion had become a family project—a way of life that captivated us completely, culminating in the founding of our own company.

How did SACO come to Uruguay, and what did it mean for you to partner with SACO SHIPPING? What were the biggest challenges, both professionally and personally?
Starting around 2006, the N.V.O.C.C. industry began to transform rapidly. It was no longer enough to be strong locally, nor sufficient to have independent agents in each origin country. Even if these agents were market leaders, they needed to be interconnected in order to provide global services to freight forwarders operating worldwide.
This led to the need for strategic alliances that could offer this global coverage. That’s when SACO SHIPPING, a leading company in Northern Europe, began expanding its direct presence across Latin America and other key global locations, carefully selecting the best local partners in each country.
After a long and thorough process, we successfully joined forces with SACO SHIPPING in 2009—both in Uruguay and Paraguay.
It was a major challenge for a family-owned company to become part of a multinational group. The transition was a valuable learning experience, professionally and personally. We redefined processes and strategies that allowed us to rise to the global challenge led by SACO SHIPPING.

Today, more than a decade later, how would you describe Saco Uruguay? What vision drives you, and what values set you apart in the market?
Today, we can proudly say that SACO SHIPPING is a market leader in the N.V.O.C.C. segment in both Uruguay and the region. We’re driven by neutrality, professionalism, team commitment, and top-quality service.
Our greatest strength is undoubtedly our team. Their human quality, dedication, seriousness, professionalism, and passion for logistics set us apart. These are the reasons why we’re recognized as leaders in the market by our clients and partners.
This is more than just a job—it’s a way of life and a reflection of our passion for logistics and the SACO brand.

What are your growth objectives for the coming years? What opportunities and challenges do you foresee for logistics in the region?
At SACO, growth is always a top priority. Expanding routes and services is at the heart of our continuous improvement strategy, allowing us to meet all our clients’ needs.
Our region offers significant opportunities. One example is the upcoming MERCOSUR–European Union agreement, which represents a major opportunity for regional growth—an opportunity for which SACO SHIPPING is already well prepared.

Finally, what advice would you give to those considering investing in or developing logistics operations from Uruguay? Why choose SACO as a strategic partner?
First, we would say: you’re on the right track. Uruguay offers exceptional political and financial stability, with clear, reliable commercial regulations over time—making it an ideal place to invest securely.
Added to this are the country’s unique advantages in the region, such as Free Port and Airport Laws, Free Trade Zones, bonded warehouses, and more. All of these make logistics one of Uruguay’s leading “limitless growth industries.”
We have the professional, legal, and operational infrastructure capacity to receive and distribute cargo volumes throughout the region, aligned with the country’s national branding message: “URUGUAY – LOGISTICS HUB.”
In this context, building strategies and planning short, medium, and long-term growth alongside a leading commercial partner like SACO SHIPPING is an essential decision for every freight forwarder.
Thanks to the human and professional quality of our team, our global presence, and our neutrality, we’re without a doubt the ideal strategic partners for our clients.

Special thanks to Sergio and Moriana for sharing their story and vision.
Their leadership has been instrumental in positioning Saco Shipping Uruguay as a regional benchmark, and their continued commitment paves the way for new challenges and achievements.
